PCB Assembly Services
PCB assembly (PCBA) is the process of attaching electronic components to a printed circuit board (PCB) to create a functional electronic circuit. It involves soldering components like resistors, capacitors, integrated circuits, and connectors onto the board, either manually or through automated processes like surface-mount technology (SMT) or through-hole technology (THT). The assembly includes steps like solder paste application, component placement, soldering, and inspection to ensure the board meets design specifications and functions correctly.

PCB Assembly Services - FAQ
PCB assembly is the process of populating a bare printed circuit board with electronic components to create a functional electronic device. It involves soldering components, such as resistors, capacitors, and integrated circuits, onto the board using surface-mount technology (SMT), through-hole technology (THT), or mixed methods.
- Surface-Mount Technology (SMT): Components are placed directly onto the board’s surface and soldered using reflow ovens. Ideal for small, high-density components.
- Through-Hole Technology (THT): Components with leads are inserted through holes in the board and soldered on the opposite side. Suitable for larger or high-reliability components.
- Mixed Technology: Combines SMT and THT for complex designs.
- Gerber Files: Define the PCB layout, including copper layers, solder mask, and silkscreen.
- Bill of Materials (BOM): Lists all components with part numbers, quantities, and reference designators.
- Pick-and-Place (CPL) File: Specifies component locations and orientations for automated assembly.
- Assembly Drawings (optional): Provide additional instructions for component placement or special requirements.
Turnkey assembly means the provider handles the entire process, including PCB fabrication, component procurement, assembly, testing, and shipping. Full turnkey covers all aspects, while partial turnkey allows customers to supply some components or boards.
DFA involves designing a PCB to optimize the assembly process, reducing costs and errors. Key considerations include component spacing (e.g., 10–30 mils between discrete components), clear silkscreen markings, and avoiding mixed lead-free and leaded components.
Common tests include:
- Automated Optical Inspection (AOI): Checks for missing or misaligned components.
- X-Ray Inspection: Verifies solder joints for leadless components like BGAs or QFNs.
- In-Circuit Testing (ICT): Detects shorts or joint failures.
- Functional Testing: Ensures the board performs as intended.
Leftover components may be stored for future orders or shipped back to the customer. Components with limited use are typically returned.
Yes, we offer consignment options where customers provide components.
